Stem cells cytogenetics

Human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) are often subjected to different experimental “in vitro” treatments in order to study new drugs, cell developmental biology or gene expression, taking advantage of their differentiation capacity.

At least one of the consequences associated with the growth of stem cells in in vitro cultures is the associated chromosomal instability and the loss or gain of genetic material.

That is why at Ambar Lab we perform karyotyping of stem cells from in in vitro cultures to detect possible numerical or structural alterations, as well as microsatellite studies by QF-PCR and fragment analysis, to monitor and control the corresponding cell lines.
